Roid Commander
Welcome Commander!
In a galaxy populated by dangerous enemy races, hurtling asteroids, and ship salvage from battles past, one resource lies at the source of all conflict. A special serum, known as R.O.I.D.S, that is extracted from asteroid resources, is a vital part of the repair/upgrade process and has driven the galaxy's inhabitants towards a desperate struggle over its control. Your mission is to collect materials, upgrade your ship, and cleanse the galaxy of enemy scum in hopes of protecting this precious resource.
Controls:
W - Forward Thrust || S - Double Thrust (2x Speed)
A - Rotate Left || D - Rotate Right
SPACE - Fire Projectile
Q - Dodge Thrust Left || E - Dodge Thrust Right
R - Use one[1] R.O.I.D.S. Capsule to repair ten[10] ship health
U - [At Refining Station] Converts five[5] Asteroid Resources to one[1] R.O.I.D.S. Capsule || [At Upgrade Station] Open or Close upgrade menu
F - Use two[2] Asteroid Resources to deploy a navigational waypoint beacon at the current location
P - Pings waypoint beacons, causing each one to launch a navigational projectile towards the player's current position.
I - Hide/Unhide ship screen UI elements.
Objective:
- 3 different enemy race bosses spawn randomly in the corners of the galaxy. These bosses will begin sending out spawners, which spawn the corresponding enemy ships. The spawners will generate enemy ships infinitely as they are defeated until the player has defeat the main boss.
- Players can break asteroids or ship salvage, and defeat enemies to collect each type of resource, which can then be used to upgrade their ship and improve their fighting odds.
- After defeating all 3 of the main bosses the player has completed the game, however, they can also choose to continue the fight. By continuing the game, the bosses will begin to respawn after they are defeated, allowing players to achieve as high a score as possible or explore the galaxy as they please.
Side Notes:
- All concepts, assets(art/script/audio), etc. were created from scratch by Chris Goebel [Neonpe].
- The upgrade menu implements a toggle slider system, allowing players to fine-tune the control of their ship however they like. Some may prefer a slower rotation speed and faster thrust speed for faster movement, but steadier aim, while others may prefer a quick rotation speed for snappy aiming.
- The main bosses of each enemy species currently have a placeholder sprite and should not be taken as the final implementation.
- Currently there are only a few enemy types for each species, but more will be added in the future.
- World events and more random objects/enemies/npcs are planned, in order to give the galaxy a more "inhabited" feel and give players increasingly interesting interactions.
- A respawn minigame is in development but not implemented yet.
- Currently everything except the upgrade and refining station are procedurally spawned. There is currently a world border, but plans on a larger procedural generation method in the future.
